Molly Magdalain - Artist & Strategy Consultant
Molly Magdalain brings a unique perspective to the business world and is excited to combine her diverse skills and talents to help business owners develop new and existing brands. Growing up in an entrepreneurial family, Magdalain showed an early inclination towards computer science and found herself de-bugging software and learning computer programs starting at the age of 6. Over the years she has helped her family develop many new enterprises - starting and building companies is ‘in her blood.’ Additionally, Magdalain showed an inclination towards the arts at a very young age and has spent years as a singer/songwriter, visual artist and fashion designer. She also spent over 15 years riding horses competitively in her youth and went on to win several World Championships with American Paint Horses and set a world record as a lifetime point leader in one of the most popular events that lasted for over 10 years. Needless to say, the rigor, discipline and focus of all of these endeavors has helped her develop finely tuned sensibilities about what it takes to set a goal and achieve it.
Magdalain attended college at The Colorado College in Colorado Springs where she majored in Philosophy with a minor in Studio Art (painting) and continued to be a leader on campus where she starred in plays, musical shows, and served as the leader of the student run a cappella group. It was during a summer break in college that Magdalain stumbled upon the unique idea of making jewelry out of guitar strings. Like many innovative things, it started as an accident. She ran out of jewelry wire one day and decided to use the old strings from her guitar instead.
After moving to Nashville in 2002, she was embraced by the local music community as an original music artist but instead decided to start her own unique venture which involved collaborating with music artists to use their instrument strings to make jewelry. Magdalain approached artists she was drawn to or admired and hundreds of artists from all genres agreed to donate their strings to the StarStrings Project.
She moved to New York City in 2004 and opened StarStrings by Molly Magdalain in the Soho/Nolita neighborhood. Within a few months, she was making jewelry for a dedicated group of new customers and many celebrities including Edge of U2, Alanis Morrissette, Chris Thile, Brad Paisley, Victor Wooten, etc. With the tagline of ‘unique jewelry art’, StarStrings is a brand based on a deeper philosophical sensibility and Magdalain was delighted by the way her customers were drawn to the brand and also seemed to understand that it was ‘more than just fashion.’ She closed the store prior to the recession of 2008 and has since been focusing on developing businesses and managing projects in other industries including healthcare and technology.
Throughout these endeavors she has been driven by a focus on technology and the power of systems. Her interest is in developing the more ‘humanizing’ aspects of technology so that it can allow businesses to run as efficiently and profitably as possible while allowing organizations to focus on what matters most – the consciousness of their brands and the people – employees, partners and customers. Given her extensive background in the arts, Magdalain understands and enjoys the creative process and brings this focus into everything from developing brand strategy to implementing ideas for digital transformation. In 2007 she released a full-length music album titled ‘The Open Road’ which she wrote, performed on (piano/guitar/vocals) and also produced in every aspect from the music tracks to the album artwork. She understands the value of taking the time to try ideas out and go through iterations until you get something that ‘feels’ right and this kind of creative vision and persistence is not something you always see in the business world. Whether she is helping you develop a logo for your brand or planning a strategy for turning around your sales and marketing teams – she is sure to bring her artistic perspective and technical abilities to the table.
Many of the business leaders of today discuss how both empathy and intuition are qualities that will become increasingly important for leaders of the future – especially in business. Magdalain has always had an innate instinct about how to create something new or make something better and understands how to work with a wide range of people and challenges in varying industries. Business is a highly creative endeavor and now, more than ever, consumers want to trust that they will receive a high-level experience that has depth and meaning and justifies their valuable loyalty and commitment to a brand.
